Leaving a mark on the consumer: one sharpie at a time

Sharpie uses plenty of social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. As a popular brand interacting with your target audience is of the upmost importance. What is even more important is that you engage the right amount and you say things that will not end up coming back to haunt you later.

What advantages does Sharpie have?

Sharpie really does have an upper hand while using their social platforms for the good of both themselves and their target audience. Sharpies customer service strategy is to engage with their audience but not to answer every comment. They also like to encourage their buyers to keep using their products and acknowledge their ideas and suggestions. Keeping your audience engaged is important to bigger brands like Sharpie. Acknowledging them is also something you should do. When someone gets reposted or recognized online it makes them feel special and want to continue to use your product.

Are social platforms the best way to connect with your audience?

Sharpie seems to think so. One of the only ways Sharpie engages is social media and their Twitter and Instagram accounts are their big ones. All the photos they post are from their consumers which is unique in more ways than one. They show what the public is doing with their product to catch the eye of people who could end of buying their product. I think when using the consumers photos, it shows others that people enjoy using sharpies and its not just a photo the brand came up with to gain traction. This gives Sharpie a better reputation because it shows they care about their audience!

But, nobody’s perfect, right?

Sharpie may be leading in their social platform engagement but, nobody’s perfect and they also have room for improvement. Sharpie needs to be a bit more interesting and creative with their posts. They should use more color as well as possibly use their product to celebrate national holidays both federal holidays like 4th of July and fun holidays like National Margarita Day. If they were to make posts with fun subjects like that, they could show their audience that Sharpie has a wide range of kinds of Sharpies including sizes and colors. They could also show them the various ways that they could use them in the workplace, gift them to friends and family or the multiple personal uses.

Creativity: is what they are doing well.

I think the fact that they engage with their audience is something they are doing well. I would say that part is the most creative on Sharpie’s part because of the out of the box thinking. They don’t over do it and answer every single comment, but they answer the comments that are relevant to the post and are able to answer with a short but sweet answer.

This gives everyone a reason take the ideas that Sharpie has and make them their own. They could learn from them but Sharpie could learn from other brands as well.
